PQH Pretty Boy
2007 Grulla AQHA Stallion

I have wanted to put Pretty Boy's life story on here for a while, so today is the day I will start. This will be a process for me so check back often as it will take some time to do.
PQH Pretty Boy was born in Mississippi he was owned by a wonderful family(The Brasswell's) and they named him Holidoc San (which I changed to PQH Pretty Boy). When I first seen a Holidoc son for sale I just knew I could not afford him but called any way, well low in be hold the Brasswell's and I made it work, I made payments on him.  I was like a little kid on Christmas morning waiting for my boy to get here.

When he loaded off the trailer he was not prepared for our winter so a new blanket was put on him, he stood like a well mannered horse with the Holidoc sparkle in his eye, I have been a huge fan of Holidoc at this point for well over 5 yrs I can still remember sitting at my table telling my friend Denise how when my weanling Lizzy was old enough I was gonna breed to him, Holidoc horse's are very hard to come by as people just do not sell them, they are/have alway's been keeper's or priced way out of my range $10,000 and up, so to own a son of Holidoc made me feel like the luckiest horse owner in the world.

As time went on he just grew into the finest young man, perfect conformation, perfect lope to him, he had some high testosterone levels at a very young age, he knew what the girls were all about. At this point he learned what a jolly ball was :) when ever you seen him he had 1 hanging out of his mouth. Pretty Boy would throw the jolly in the air then try to cut the jolly like it was a cow, the boy was funny and amazing all at the same time. I would sit on the picnic table with my coffee watching him in complete joy! Day after day thrilled that he belonged to me :)

During his spring/summer as a yearling we sent him off for some schooling with Jennifer Bull. I can still remember her saying he saw his 1st cow today and the only thing that moved on the boy were his eyes, he watched the cow's every move. Even at such a young age he had that some thing special.

Meghan would take long walks with Pretty Boy on the back part of our property and would always stop by the mares to visit, always reminding Pretty Boy to mind his manners and follow her direction not the mares. Meghan did alot of ground work with him, wearing a bareback pad, putting bags on the end of sticks, small sessions of lunging. Pretty Boy always did his best, as did Meghan. Pretty Boy was always a willing horse, always learned after a very short  time, seemed to pick things up fast. He was always a healthy colt,  I remember a few times his back stifle locked up  of coarse I freaked out and had the vet out asap, she told me to not stall him so much, well I have one smart vet as it never happened again :) thanks Krishawn!

Time to start looking for a trainer, the time went by fast that he was approaching 2 yrs old. I talk with several trainers some very good ones, my problem was I did not want him real far from me, so I sadly decided to rule out Texas trainers. I talk w/ JP Bell, that was just a 2 1/2 hr ride so my boy was fairly close. Feb. 2009 Pretty Boy went to Jp Bell Cutting Horses to start his training. We(JP Bell and myself) had decided to do a 3 month trial and make sure the boy had what I knew he had ! I missed him every day that he was not here I called VERY often to check on him, after only 2 months into his training JP Bell said the boy was a good one plan on keeping him in training.

Pretty Boy advanced quickley from working the flag to working cattle, he was so good JP Bell was even working him bridleless to cut cattle, JP Bell also said he had an awsome stop and when we were done earning money with the cattle he was going to try reining with him! Pretty Boy was showing to be a very versatile young man, we were very pleased to say the least.
Before I go any further there have been some RUMORS going around that Pretty Boy was a lame horse NOT, Pretty Boy had been seen by Dr Bob Radich DVM, and found to be sound, I will put a clickable pdf on here of his report, along w/ University of Minnisota's autopsy report, some time this weekend.
more to come.................

PQH Pretty Boy
February 25, 2007 - June 29, 2010

We mourn the loss of our young stallion, PQH Pretty Boy. His death is completely unexpected, a huge shock, and a major loss to the future of Pretty Quarter Horses. PQH Pretty Boy had not been living with us for a year and a half.
This is not the next update we were hoping to give. He was just 8 weeks away from his first show at the Minnesota Cutting Horse Association's Futurity at the end of August.

Pretty Boy has been going strong since the day he was born, destined to be a great cutting horse, and he gave it a good fight through the end.

We lost Pretty Boy on June 29, 2010 to Bastard Strangles.

We are all in shock and it all seems so unreal. We do not know where we will go or what we will do from here. For right now we will take the time to mourn the loss of our wonderful stallion, Pretty Boy.

We would like to thank everybody else that has been apart of Pretty Boy's life- especially Dr. Krishawn Kaibel, Dr. Brian Dahms, and the Braswell Family who we bought Pretty Boy from as a coming yearling for allowing such a wonderful horse to be apart of our lives, though we wish it could have been for much much longer. Thank you to the staff at the University of Minnesota for the great care you gave Pretty Boy in the last hours of his life. And thank you to the staff at Red Horse Ranch Arena, Fergus Falls, MN.

General Information
We purchased PQH Pretty Boy from the Braswell's in Starkville, Mississippi when he was 11 months old. Pretty Boy stood 14.2 hands and muscular. He really was the whole package- there was no sacrificing anything with that horse. He had great conformation, a superb dispositon, a nice build, a great performance and working horse pedigree, natural athleticism, a willing to learn attitude, and the added bonus of being a beautiful grulla that was homozygous black.

We never thought we would lose him at such a young age. He will forever be remembered, loved, and missed.

Training
Pretty Boy was in cutting training for almost a year and a half before he passed away. He was ready to show, we were just waiting for the MCHA Futurity, which was only 8 weeks away. We are sad that he did not have a chance to "show himself off" and just share with the world how wonderful, talented, and athletic he was.

Breeding
Pretty Boy did not have a chance to prove himself as a sire.
